Unit 1: Blogs
Well, this was the first time that I have experimented with blogs in depth. I have to say that at this point I am overwhelmed and need to look at the tools and interact with it more. After reading some articles about the benefits of using blogs in the classroom I am intrigued to look into this more. One of the articles I read was titled "Using Blogs to Improve Differentiated Instruction" which states that "blogs expand instructional time by providing teachers with a user-friendly online format to reinforce strategies, introduce new topics and concepts, review important class points, review for tests, and provide enrichment." (Colombo 2007) The article further went on to state the various aspects of blogs being very beneficial to many populations of students such as ELL and SPED students. For example, providing videocasting to reinforce concepts. After reviewing the articles and looking into the blogs, I have to ask the question...is a blog the best vehicle for technology in the classroom? I currently use wikis and like them a lot. So how does a blog compare to a wiki?

Kristen, I'm with you. This is my first in-depth experience with blogs too. I couldn't tell you how blogs compare to wikis: I'm a techno rookie. Here's to great blogging!
ReplyDeleteKristen, I felt the same way you did with blogs when I first began my blog (confessionsofateachanista.blogspot.com). However, now that I have had a chance to play around with the set-up a bit I feel more comfortable. I am sure you will get the hang of it as you go along. Also, I wish you the best in your recovery!
ReplyDeleteThis is also my first real experience with blogs! I could not agree more that technology in general is a great resource for English Language Learners and Special Education students. I do not know much about wikis...but I think in the upcoming weeks we will figure out the differences and then you will be able to tell which one is better! I think after using your blog during this class you will feel more comfortable and confident with blogs!
